Residents of a Naivasha estate are trying to come to terms with an incident where one minor was burnt to death while his two sisters were rescued by members of the public.

During the incident in Mithuri estate, the minor was burnt beyond recognition while the siblings were left nursing fire wounds and several houses were razed.

Police had to move in and rescue the mother of the minors who allegedly locked them in the house before proceeding to Naivasha town for a drink.

Emotions ran high as police collected the charred remains while the injured minors were admitted to Naivasha subcounty hospital in serious but stable condition.

A village elder, John Mwai said that members of the public had to break into the burning house to rescue the minors who were trapped inside.

“The mother had locked the house from the outside and we still don’t know the cause of the fire but one minor died and two others were rescued,” he said.

Naivasha Deputy County Commissioner Mutua Kisulu confirmed the incident, adding that over ten households were affected by the fire.

“The county has assisted those affected through the provision of mattresses and other basic goods and police have opened an inquest into the incident,” he said.

Meanwhile, irate members of the public lynched a middle-aged man who was found stealing from a garage in Mai Mahiu town in Naivasha.

The suspect was cornered as he carted away several spare parts from the busy garage located in the busy trading centre.

A witness Job Ngure said that the owners of the garage had in the past lost valuables worth thousands of shillings before the suspect was nabbed.

“The suspect who does not hail from this area was caught red-handed stealing spare parts and was beaten to death before police moved in to collect the body,” he said.
