Prominent Kajiado farmer Kenny Matampash was on Thursday visited by wild animals for the 19th time in two years when six cheetahs killed his five goats.

The broad day attack saw the best of his five goats breed killed and one of the cheetahs was also killed.

The attack which took place in the Kajiado West subcounty, in Ilodoodokilani ward and was confirmed by the Kajiado Kenya Wildlife Service office which said only one cheetah died.

Matampash, who early this year reportedly lost more than Sh20 million in crops, pipes and water tanks damaged by elephants, said today’s attack happened away from his children.

He said he lost five goats valued at Sh100,000.

“The KWS officials have come over to asses the damages and hope they will speed up my compensation for the goats,” Matampash said.

Matampash wondered where the cheetahs, which are not common in the area, came from.

“I am lucky because I have shepherd dogs that curtailed the cheetahs from attacking more goats. Without the dogs, we would be counting more losses now,” he said.
