Student who stabbed girlfriend still admitted to ICU – police

A third-year University of Eldoret student is still admitted to the ICU at Moi Referral Hospital two days after he stabbed his girlfriend to death and later attempted to kill commit suicide.

The incident occurred in a hostel near the institution.

The suspect identified as Elikana Kiplagat Korir later attempted to commit suicide by stabbing himself several times in the chest but was rescued and taken to the hospital.

"He is still admitted in critical condition but we hope he will recover to record a statement," Soy area police boss Henry Zuma said.

The girl who died was a 2nd year.

Police suspect that the Sunday incident was caused by a love triangle which had led the two students to quarrel for some time before the killing.

Zuma said DCI officers were still investigating the incident which happened in the hostel used by the female student.

He said the owner of the hostels rushed the suspect to the hospital after breaking into the house where there had been a commotion.

The hostels are located at Sogome Centre adjacent to the University along the Eldoret-Ziwa road.

DCI officers collected a blood-stained kitchen knife from the scene.

A witness who lives near the hostel said the two had locked themselves in the house for about four days before the incident.

“They had been in the house for about four days before we heard commotion leading to the incident,” said the witness.
