A Kajiado livestock farmer is counting losses after a car accident killed 9 cows along the Suswa-Ngong road on Sunday evening.

Joseph Sankale’s 120 cows were moving to Loitokitok in Kajiado county when a Toyota Double Cabin vehicle sped through the livestock, killing 9 cows on the spot.

Sankale, a former assistant county commissioner, said that in the incident, three cows, three goats, three sheep and one donkey were seriously injured.

“This is a big loss to me considering that I used a lot of money to transfer these animals from Nakuru during the drought. I had sold many goats to facilitate the movement of my livestock,” Sankale said.

The farmer showed the Star the bumper of the vehicle involved in the accident which fell on the scene of the accident in Kimuka near Ngong.

Ngong police said they have circulated the number plate of the car and they are seeking assistance from NTSA to know the owner.

Eyewitnesses told the Star the vehicle was moving at a high speed when it hit the livestock.

“The entire road was flooded with blood. It was already late and we could not do anything but just move them to the sides of the road,” Paul Mutunkei said.
