Kisumu Central MP and gubernatorial hopeful Joshua Oron has urged residents of the Nyanza region to rethink their political strategy and actively engage with the national government.
MP Oron said sustained development can only be achieved through cooperation and inclusion.
Speaking during the commissioning of new NG-CDF-funded classrooms in Kisumu Central, Oron said his support for President William Ruto’s administration is driven by the need to secure long-term development for the region rather than short-term political calculations tied to election cycles.
According to the MP, communities that remain detached from the government of the day risk missing out on critical investments in infrastructure, education and social services.
“Development does not operate on a five-year cycle. If we want meaningful and sustained progress, we must position ourselves where decisions are made,” Oron said.

Oron singled out education as one of the sectors already reaping dividends from improved engagement, citing new classrooms and learning facilities constructed through the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF).
He also welcomed the appointment of Olago Aluoch as Chairperson of the NG-CDF Board, noting that the leadership had strengthened education infrastructure in Kisumu Central and other parts of Nyanza.
“This shows that development is possible when leadership is anchored on service rather than political divisions,” he said.
NG-CDF Board Chairperson Olago Aluoch, who attended the event, called on residents to support policies and leadership that prioritise service delivery, especially in education and youth empowerment.

He also addressed uncertainty surrounding the future of the NG-CDF following a court ruling that ordered its dissolution, saying an appeal has been lodged to safeguard the fund.
“The Board, Parliament and the Attorney General have moved to challenge the ruling, and we are confident the court will consider the evidence presented when the matter is determined early next year,” Olago said.
NG-CDF Board Chief Executive Officer Yusuf Mbuno said Sh21 million has been invested in classroom construction across the three schools, a move expected to ease congestion and improve learning conditions for hundreds of pupils in Kisumu Central.
He disclosed that the Board is also planning climate resilience interventions in the constituency, including flood mitigation measures to protect schools frequently affected by heavy rains.
“Some schools have suffered repeated learning disruptions due to flooding. We want to ensure that the investments made in education infrastructure are protected,” Mbuno said.
The leaders were speaking at St Mary’s Kibuye Girls Primary School, where newly constructed classrooms were officially opened.
Similar projects were commissioned at Kondele Primary School and St Paul’s Kanyakwar Primary School.
