Starehe deputy county commissioner John Kisang has directed chiefs and their assistants to take the lead in planting of trees in areas under their jurisdictions.
Kisang said in line with President William Ruto's agenda of planting 15 billion trees by 2032, the administrators must ensure this is fully implemented.
He also urged non-governmental organizations and community-based organizations to help in the provision of seeds to groups to meet the target of planting trees.
"We must work together to implement the President’s directive of planting 15 billion trees. It is through teamwork and unity of purpose that we can achieve this," Kisang said.
Speaking at the Railways Training Institute, the DCC said administrators were at the grassroots level and were well-placed to implement government programs.
"Chiefs and their assistants are always with the people at the grassroots. They are well-placed to implement government projects. We must deliver," he said.
At the same time, Kisang asked the administrators to intensify the war against illicit brews and drug abuse in the area.
He said many youths were indulging in the consumption of illicit brews at the expense of engaging in income-generating activities.
"We must take decisive measures to eradicate illicit brews and drugs for the sake of the future of our youths," Kisang said.
Present were deputy subcounty police commander David Apima, and Critical Infrastructure Protection Unit Commander Lilian Obura among others.
