Siaya's new chief officer of finance has pledged to roll out robust and elaborate plans to revamp the department as he hits the ground running.

Jactone Ouma Odinga who is taking over the docket as a substantive chief officer of finance following a successful vetting by the county assembly said his focus will be on how to enhance the collection of own-source revenue.

According to the latest report by the Controller of Budget, Siaya posted impressive results, collecting over Sh500 million in Own-Source Revenue during the 2022/ 23 FY review.

When he appeared for vetting by the county assembly Odinga who has been acting in the same office following the suspension of his predecessor Denis Nyonje promised to come up with policies that would help in the realisation of the County's Own source of revenue.

"I will work on the formulation of policies that will help in the realization of the county’s own source revenue targets," he said.

He further promised to involve key stakeholders, including the business community in ensuring that there is adequate understanding and cooperation in the management of local revenue collections.

The chief officer said he will bank on his experience in the management of public finance as a crucial asset to steer the docket to greater heights.

He also noted that he will prioritize the alignment of planning documents with the budget estimates.

Odinga noted this will ensure the smooth flow of proposed programmes.

"I hope to do this through constant engagements with the County Assembly Budget, Appropriations, Planning and Vision 2030 Committee," Odinga noted.

The new finance chief officer further undertook to give sensitization of members of the public a priority as a way to enhance the quality of public participation in the budget-making process.

Odinga who will now head the department as the chief accounting officer has also previously served as the Director of Finance and the Director of Planning and Budgeting.

In the first assembly, between 2013 - 2017, he was a member of the County Assembly representing Ukwala Ward.

In the house, he served as the Chairman of the County Assembly Budget and Appropriations Committee.

Odinga and the other six chief officers were issued with appointment letters on Tuesday.

Siaya governor James Orengo also witnessed the swearing-in of Prof Jackline Oduol as the new CEC for Water.

The governor said the team deserved the appointments and appealed to them to help him deliver the Nyalore agenda as a team.
