Police in Ndhiwa are investigating the alleged murder of a scrap metal dealer who was found dead after missing for five days.
Linsey Ochieng was Saturday found dead in a sewer line of Sukari Industry near River Kuja in South Kanyikela location, Ndhiwa constituency.
The 40-year-old dealer was found when his lower limbs were in the sewage while his head lay on dry land by residents who were passing by.
His father John Adika said the head of his son had a serious injury which raised suspicion that he was assaulted before his death.
“The physical injuries we saw on his head convinced us that my son was killed before the body was dumped in the sewer line. The lower body parts which were inside the sewer line had started decomposing,” Adika said.
Speaking on Sunday, Adika said Ochieng went missing on Monday last week before the mysterious death occurred.
He was not in communication with any family members.
It was reported that Ochieng left home at Ligodho village in West Kanyadoto location on Monday but he was never seen again.
His family was worried about his whereabouts before they began looking for him.
“His absence without any communication made us get worried. We looked for from Tuesday to in vain as his mobile phone was also inaccessible,” he added.
The family failed to trace him until Saturday when the family got shocking information that their son was dead.
The family also said his death was a serious setback as he was the sole breadwinner.
They called on the police to speed investigations into the incident to enhance justice for them.
“We appeal to our law enforcement agencies to provide us with justice for this death,” Adika said.
Ndhiwa subcounty police commander Paul Rioba said the body was partly decomposed, making it difficult to ascertain whether Ochieng was killed or not.
Rioba said the cause of the death will be revealed through the autopsy that will be conducted.
“We’re appealing to residents who might have known the cause of his death to report to us. This will enhance investigations and help us arrest suspects,” Rioba said.
The police boss said investigations had been commenced into the matter.
The body was moved to the Manyatta Kobodo mortuary.
“Investigations are ongoing to reveal the truth of what caused his death,” he added.
