Businesses in Kisumu have been told to position themselves to reap opportunities from the forthcoming music concert that will be headlined by Jamaican reggae star Richie Spice.
Kisumu Governor Prof Anyang’ Nyong’o said the music concert slated for this weekend will showcase the lakeside city as a tourism and entertainment hub.
Kisumu has in the recent past hosted various events including the Fish Fiesta and Africities.
Nyong'o said the International Reggae superstar will jet into the Lakeside City on Sunday at 9.45 am ahead of his major concert at the Mamboleo Show Ground, Kisumu.
He said Richie will be accorded a VIP reception and treatment by the County Government.
The artist, Nyong'o said, will then pay him and his cabinet a courtesy call and further hold a joint media brief after which he will head to one of their popular star-rated hotels in the city that has partnered with the organizers.
He said later, the Jamaican artist together with his crew will be accorded a city tour, a lake tour and a nature tour as they showcase the best of the lakeside city to the world.
"He will get an opportunity to have a taste of our special fresh fish known as Ngege (tilapia) from our important resource, Lake Victoria."
The governor further thanked the Ziva Empire for partnering with the County in making the upcoming concert a huge success.
"As the County Government, through the City Management, we confirm the provision and availability of the Mamboleo Show Ground, security, traffic management and further confirm the provision of protocol procedures."
The governor also thanked the Sarova Hotels who are the official hospitality partner during the Richie Spice Kisumu Concert.
He also urged the small business community to also take advantage of such events to cash in from their sales of various food and non-food items.
Music concerts are regarded as powerful tools for promoting destinations and tourism, and for opening them up as entertainment hubs.
