Siaya deputy governor William Oduol has reiterated that he won't resign.

Speaking on Citizen TV, Oduol said he was not a coward and won't yield to pressure from any quarters to quit.

"Siogopi. I have a huge following behind me. I have supporters behind me," he said.

The embattled DG also hit out at Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi for calling for his resignation.

The ODM secretary for political affairs on Monday issued a statement asking the DG to immediately resign to pave the way for a replacement saying the relationship between Governor Orengo and his deputy has irreparably broken down.

He termed as toxic the relationship between the two leaders as saying uninterrupted quality service delivery to the people of Siaya was not guaranteed under the prevailing environment.

But Oduol accused Wandayi who is the minority leader in the national assembly of harbouring ambition to become Siaya governor after Orengo.

"Wandayi is not objective. He has the ambition to be governor. He wanted to vie for the seat in the last election but was prevailed upon to shelve his bid by our leader Raila Odinga," he said

To end the stalemate, the deputy governor suggested that ODM should convene a meeting between himself and Orengo to discuss these issues.

"In such a meeting, I will lay on the table all the issues I have been talking about and allow the governor to offer a rebuttal," he said.

Oduol insisted that the matter of resignation was not an option, adding that if he resigned, the residents of Siaya will have nobody to speak for them.

"The corrupt will have a field day if I resign. That won't happen," he said.

The DG claimed that they agreed before the election that Orengo would give him some dockets in the County cabinet to oversee. He said the agreement was a verbal one.

"Because of my professional background, I wanted to advise on finance issues," he said.

Oduol claimed that he was picked as Orengo's running mate because of his popularity.

"We began working with the governor on a positive note. Our differences began when I began raising concerns about corruption," he said.

He explained that their differences deepened when "corrupt" officials in the last regime were retained.

"These are people who are under investigation by EACC and DCI over the disappearance of Sh 1 billion," he said.

Oduol made these remarks when ODM leader Raila Odinga was received by Governor James Orengo at the county headquarters in Siaya.

Raila will be in the Ugenya constituency to donate various items to flood victims in the area.

He will later join the governor at a function in Gem later today (Tuesday)..
