Former Fafi Ward MCA Hassan Aden Kolosho has reclaimed his seat after winning Thursday’s by-election on a Ford Kenya ticket, several months after his previous election was nullified by the courts.

Kolosh was declared the winner by Fafi Constituency IEBC Returning Officer Noor Gedi Arale after securing 1,414 votes.

He defeated his closest rival, Diriye Ibrahim Maalim of UDA, who garnered 967 votes, while ODM’s Feisal Gedi Mohamed received 859 votes.

The official results were announced shortly before midnight at the Borehole 5 Secondary School tallying center.

Out of 7,050 registered voters, a total of 3,264 cast their ballots, representing a 46.3% turnout.

Kolosh, who shifted from UPIA to Ford Kenya following the nullification of his earlier election due to a petition by Feisal Gedi, thanked residents for their continued support.

“I can’t express my feelings. When my seat was declared vacant, it was one of my lowest moments, having served for only a short period. But tonight, I am elated to retain my seat,” he said.

He assured residents that he would serve diligently and work to meet their expectations.

Two weeks ago, National Assembly Speaker and Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetangula campaigned for Kolosh in Hagadera.

He was joined by Fafi MP Salah Yakub, Wajir North MP Ibrahim Saney, Wajir West MP Yussuf Farah, Lagdera MP Abdikadir Hussein, and Tarbaj MP Barre Maalim.

“The turnout was low but higher than the last general election. It is now 46.3 per cent,” said Returning Officer Arale, adding that no incidents of violence or bribery were reported.

He commended the aspirants, voters, and security teams for maintaining peace throughout the exercise.

Fafi MP Salah Yakub thanked residents for supporting Kolosh, noting that he does not regret backing the Ford Kenya candidate, despite the UDA fielding a candidate.
