The government has demonstrated a clear commitment to uplifting areas that were previously marginalised, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has said.

Wetang’ula, who was the chief guest during the commissioning of projects undertaken by the CDF, urged residents in Hagadera, Fafi subcounty, to rally behind President William Ruto’s administration.

“Northern Kenya, which had been neglected for decades by successive governments in matters of development, is now receiving its fair share of development projects, thanks to President Ruto's government,” he said on Monday.

The Speaker, who has become a strong defender of Ruto’s administration, said Northeastern is among the biggest beneficiaries of newly launched development initiatives.

“For the first time in many years, Northeastern is seeing genuine, sustained investment meant to uplift the lives of its people. Key sectors like health, security, water, education and infrastructure have all been transformed and residents from this part of the country can also feel like they are Kenyans and part of the government of the day,” he added.

He pointed to ongoing infrastructure upgrades, particularly road projects, which he said are crucial for improving mobility, boosting trade and connecting the region to the rest of the country.

These efforts, he said, demonstrate the government’s commitment to ensuring that no region is left behind in national development.

He called on residents to support their Members of Parliament, who are their voices in the National Assembly and play a central role in shaping policies and championing local priorities.

The Ford Kenya chairman also used the opportunity to campaign for the party's candidate for the Fafi ward seat, Hassan Kolosh.

The Speaker was in the company of host MP Salah Yakub (Fafi), Ibrahim Saney (Wajir North), Abdikadir Hussein (Lagdera) and Yussuf Farah (Wajir West).

During the visit, Wetang’ula also addressed concerns about the market that was recently destroyed by fire, assuring residents that he would champion its reconstruction.

The new market, he said, would be built under the Affordable Housing Programme, which also incorporates the construction of modern trading spaces.
