Two Isiolo Members of County
Assembly (MCAs) have received a temporary reprieve after the Political Parties
Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) suspended their expulsion from the United Democratic
Movement (UDM) party.
The tribunal, chaired by Hon. Desma
Nungo, issued the interim orders on Wednesday, following a certificate of
urgency application filed by MCAs Amina Enow Omar and Foziah Jobril Bore.
The two were facing expulsion from
the party for allegedly siding with Governor Abdi Guyo during a recent
impeachment motion.
In her ruling, Chairperson Nungo
certified the application as urgent and granted a temporary order suspending
UDM’s decision to expel the two MCAs.
The tribunal also barred any action
aimed at restricting them from executing their duties at the Isiolo County
Assembly.
“Pending the hearing and
determination of this instant application inter partes, this Honourable
Tribunal hereby issues an order temporarily suspending the respondent’s
decision to expel the applicants from the United Democratic Movement,” the
order reads in part.
The tribunal further directed that
no individual or entity should prevent the MCAs from continuing to perform
their legislative roles.
It also stopped the gazettement of
their expulsion or replacement until the case is heard and determined.
The application by the two MCAs was
filed on July 16, 2025, under a certificate of urgency, and supported by
affidavits and annexures submitted electronically.
The matter was mentioned ex-parte
and is set for further mention on July 30, 2025, to check compliance and give
additional directions.
The tribunal directed the UDM party
to file its response within seven days, with the MCAs allowed three days
thereafter to file their reply.
The attempted expulsion of the two
MCAs had sparked political tensions in Isiolo, amid divisions within the party
over the impeachment motion targeting Governor Guyo.
The governor narrowly survived the
vote, reportedly with the support of the two embattled MCAs.
The latest tribunal order now allows
the MCAs to continue discharging their duties as elected leaders pending the
final outcome of the case.
