The newly sworn-in Speaker of the Isiolo County Assembly, Banticha Abdullahi, on Friday, July 11, visited the Assembly premises to assess the extent of destruction caused during the recent conflict that erupted following the Assembly’s move to impeach Governor Ibrahim Hassan.

Before the visit, Speaker Banticha paid a courtesy call to Isiolo County Commissioner Geoffrey Omonding to deliberate on ways of restoring and maintaining peace and security in the county.

Speaking at the County Commissioner’s office, Banticha affirmed his commitment to working closely with the Commissioner’s office, especially on matters concerning security.

“Security is very vital to the development agenda of our county. Therefore, we will work closely with your office,” observed Banticha.

County Commissioner Omonding assured the Speaker that his office is actively pursuing all those involved in the vandalism of the County Assembly premises and vowed to restore order.

“We must apprehend all those who took part in the vandalism of the Isiolo County Assembly. They will be treated as criminals,” said Omonding.

He expressed regret that the recent political tensions provided an opportunity for criminals to vandalise public property.

He emphasised that security agencies are working to bring all perpetrators to justice.

Omonding also refuted claims that a blogger who recently died after being in the ICU was injured during the Assembly conflict, clarifying instead that the individual had been involved in a road accident.

On matters related to Assembly operations, Speaker Banticha assured Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) that he will provide fair and unbiased leadership during his tenure.

"The role of the Assembly is representation, oversight, and legislation. As Speaker, I will perform my duties without bias,” he stated.

He urged MCAs, who have been out of office for nearly a month, to return to work and resume their legislative responsibilities, noting that many county functions have stalled.

He further noted that the respective Assembly committees will work hand-in-hand with the County Executive to resolve key issues and ensure smooth service delivery to the residents of Isiolo.
