A section of Marsabit County
residents, including local youth, have come out in defence of Woman
Representative Naomi Jillo Waqo and Saku MP Ali Dido Rasso, criticising a
recent speech by a state official whom they accuse of making unfounded claims
against the two leaders.
Speaking in Badasa, resident Wario
Galgalo alleged that the official's remarks were aimed at tarnishing the
reputations of Waqo and Rasso.
He claimed the official accused the two MPs of petitioning President William Ruto to sack the officer.
“If he claims there's such a letter,
let the officer show it to the public. Otherwise, he should stop misleading
people,” Galgalo said, adding that the two leaders had the right to visit
government offices in the course of their duties.
Galgalo also questioned the
official’s recent declaration to contest for a county seat, saying it was too
early.
“The officer declared a bid for
a political seat without involving the people of Marsabit,” Galgalo stated.
“Let the officer wait for the
election period. He might get tired before then.”
Another resident, Issa Hassan
Kombola, urged local leaders to work together for the benefit of Marsabit
County.
He called on the official to focus
on addressing challenges facing residents instead of fueling division.
“Leaders should come and speak to the
real problems affecting our people,” he said.
Kombola praised Woman Rep Waqo for
engaging with people with disabilities and women, distributing food, and
raising awareness on the importance of registration under the Social Health
Authority (SHA).
Residents emphasised the need for
unity and peace in the county, warning that political rivalry could derail
ongoing development efforts.
