Public Service CS Geoffrey Ruku has urged Kenyans to disregard the opposition and other government detractors, accusing them of engaging in unproductive political rhetoric.

The CS acknowledged that constructive criticism is vital for a healthy democracy, but persistent negativity without offering viable alternatives serves no purpose.

The opposition has criticised President William Ruto’s government on various fronts, including alleged economic mismanagement, increased public debt, and unsustainable borrowing.

But Ruku refuted these claims, asserting that the economy has significantly improved.

"The President has done a lot of work to uplift the economy of the country from where he found it when he assumed office," Ruku stated.

Rice, beans and household items were distributed to the most vulnerable members of the community.

“Prices of basic commodities have significantly reduced, the prices of unga and cooking oil were high but now the President has made sure that the prices come down,” Ruku said.

The CS said the government's achievements are visible to all Kenyans.

“The inflation rate has also reduced from 9.6 percent to 3.8 per cent, fuel prices, which were over Sh200 have reduced too, while at the same time, prices for coffee and tea have gone up so that our farmers get more money from their produce."

Ruku, who was accompanied by leaders including Garissa Woman Representative Udgoon Siyaad, Balambala MP Shurie Omar, and Lagdera MP Mohamed Abdikadir, highlighted key government accomplishments.

He cited infrastructure development, which has seen projects such as roads, bridges, affordable housing, and modern markets constructed.

Healthcare reforms, improved access to services, and empowerment of the youth and women through enterprise funds and SME support were also included on the scorecard.

Siyaad cautioned the opposition against making inflammatory statements that could incite the public.

Such remarks indicate that the opposition are apprehensive of defeat in the 2027 general elections.

“The allegations that if President Ruto wins a second term, there would be bloodshed are a lie. That is a characteristic of people who do not accept when they are fairly defeated,” Siyaad said.

“If you allege that if someone wins you will not accept, you have already sensed defeat. If they say that they are listening to the ground, then we also have our own ground where we are listening to what our people want,” she added.

On his part, Omar urged the President to consider allocating Cabinet positions to politicians in the future, citing their proven competence in leadership and public service delivery.
