topical issues among them, Health & Sanitation, Education and Youth
Empowerment among others.

The Bright Path Eldas (BPE), a youth-led
Community-Based Organization (CBO) has been launched with the sole purpose of addressing
challenges bedeviling the constituency and unlocking its potential.Speaking at the event that was held at a Nairobi
hotel, the CBOs. Chairman Siyad Ismail Abdi said the CBO is committed to
addressing key topical issues among them, Health & Sanitation, Education
and Youth Empowerment, Climate Change and Environmental Conservation,
Livelihood Support and Economic Empowerment, Conflict Resolution and Peace
Building, Women Empowerment, Food Security and Nutrition, Infrastructure and
Development and Community Awareness and Civic Engagement. Other challenges that the constituency grapples with
include limited access to quality education occasioned by shortage of teachers,
underdeveloped infrastructure and high poverty rates which is a result of
over reliance of pastoralism which has been affected by ever changing weather
patterns. “We are greatly honored to have come together, united
for course, that of living a positive mark in our community. This organisation
will also focus on other issues including drug use and substance abuse in Eldas,”
he said. Wajir County Assembly speaker Abdille Yussuf speaking at the
event.
He added: “In collaboration with the county and the national
government, we will provide civic
education in all Eldas locations and investigate ways to provide alternative
sources of menace,”. Siyad said the constituency still has the
potential for development in key sectors
like education, healthcare,livestock trade, agribusiness, entrepreneurship
and infrastructure saying that the only thing that has been lacking was leaders
and stakeholders uniting and pushing for the same both at the county and
national government. “We want to emphasize the organization’s dedication
and commitment to addressing challenges in the community through advocacy,
civic education, and youth empowerment. Most important we want to highlight the
importance of unity and collective action in driving sustainable development,” he
said. He further used the opportunity to call on the government
to produce Dela ward MCA Yussuf Hussein who has been missing for four months now. "I don't think we are safe as youth and the
residents of Eldas if an elected legislature can be missing and his whereabouts
remain unknown several months down the line," he said. On his part Wajir County Assembly
speaker Abdille Yussuf described the launch of the CBO as a significant milestone in fostering community
empowerment and civic engagement. “The fact that this CBO was formed to create an
informed, empowered, and united community that champions good governance and
sustainable development sums up everything. You have my full support as we move

On his part Ahmed Boray, a local political leader said
that as leaders they shared a collective commitment to supporting the
organization’s vision for a better future.
“Let us work together to address poverty, illiteracy,
and underdevelopment in Eldas. we all
have a role to play in ensuring that this happens,” he said.
On his part Mohamed Maalin Gedi, the CBOs Secretary
General said they will also be engaged in training the community on climate
Change and Environmental Conservation.
“We will be training communities on climate adaptation
strategies like drought resilience as well
as promoting reforestation and sustainable land use,” he said.
Others who graced the occasion were Abdirizack Somo, Farhiya Haaji Abdille, Ali
Mohamed Yussuf, Anisa Bint Rashid, Abey Moow, Mohamed Nunow, community elders,
and youth from across the constituency.
Eldas that covers an area of 4,077.80 square
kilometers, is divided into four County Assembly Wards namely: Eldas, Dela,
Elnur/Tula Tula, and Basir/Lakoley South.
Over 80% of the population relies on pastoralism,
primarily cattle, goats, sheep, and camels.
