Senators have launched an inquiry into the status of investigations by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) in Wajir, Mandera, Marsabit and Samburu counties.
Marsabit Senator Mohamed Chute, who sought a statement from the Standing Committee on Justice, Legal Affairs and Human Rights, wants EACC to provide details of investigations into allegations of corruption and irregular procurement in the four counties.
He said the anti-graft agency should highlight findings in each of the inquiries so far.
“Indicate the number of cases the EACC has recommended to the Director of Public Prosecutions for prosecution, stating how many of these were prosecuted and how many were referred back to the Commission,” he said.
He added that EACC should provide highlights of an inquiry into allegations of irregular procurement of a fire engine by Marsabit County Government, listing the quotation bids received, and the winning bid, and clarify whether the County Assembly approved the procurement.
He further wants EACC to state whether the purchase was supported by any development partners.
In Mandera, EACC has been probing a firm that was allegedly awarded tenders worth Sh500 million irregularly.
Samburu is probing former officials in relation to the Sh84 million graft case facing ex-governor Moses Lenolkulal.
In May 2023, a Senate watchdog committee directed EACC to investigate the loss of Sh1.5 billion of statutory deductions from the employees but not remitted in Wajir county.
Governor Ahmed Abdullahi told the Senate County Public Accounts Committee that he had initiated a process of auditing pending bills that have now reached Sh7.4 billion.
