Guyo launches governorship bid ahead of party nominations

The 41 year old city politician , also advocated for unity among the different communities living in Isiolo to avoid ethnic clashes.

Nairobi County Assembly Majority leader Abdi Hassan Guyo has launched his Isiolo governorship bid as he get endorsed by the Meru community.

This was his first event in Isiolo after being endorsed by governor Kuti who shelved re-election bid citing health reasons.

Not to promote nepotism, Guyo told the Meru community that they will be well represented in his government if he will be elected .

“ I have lived and stayed with the Ameru community and I pledge to work with them and will be represented when I form my administration ,” Guyo said.

“Kuti has sent me to pass his gratitude to the people of Isiolo for believing in his leadership.He would have come himself but he has gone abroad due to his health status, he added.

If elected as Isiolo’s third governor, the legislator highlighted that he will complete all the projects started by Kuti before starting new ones.

He said allocation will be prioritised to the initial traders and for remaining spaces will be fairly distributed.

“ I will complete the stalled market projects and ensure that those allocated are traders who were told to relocate as to allow construction,” Guyo said.

Guyo explained that ethnic bitterness and hate had been ‘planted’ among the communities, hindering harmony and posing threat to peace in the county.

“ Whether you are Ameru, Somali, Sakuye everyone will be treated equally and have fair access of services.With my good connection with the National Government, security will be my priority to the residents of Isiolo county."

The aspirant highlighted that his leadership in Isiolo will aim to improve access to county services and focus on harnessing economic opportunities offered by the Vision 2030 projects.

Being optimistic, Guyo said   he will  root for equal sharing of resources to all the communities in Isiolo

"Upon my election, I will root for equitable sharing of resources to all the communities in Isiolo County and sundry irrespective of their background.My leadership will therefore right the wrongs and provide the mature leadership our county direly needs."

According to IEBC's 2017 register , Isiolo had 75,355 registered voters.

The county is made up two sub counties; Isiolo North and Isiolo South .

It has 10 wards ; Wabera , Bulla Pesa, Burat, Ngaremara, Oldinyiro, Chari, Cherab, Kinna , Sericho and Garbatulla.

Guyo, who is a close ally of President Uhuru Kenyatta, said he will seek on the ruling Jubilee party’s ticket.

Jubilee is my party and I cannot go anywhere else. We want the transform lives of our people. That is my aim for going for this seat."

We want to ensure that our people have food, water and the basic necessities. We will continue to work on infrastructure and expand the road network. We are equal to the task,” he said.

The MCA was re-elected in the 2013 elections where he contested on a Jubilee ticket. He was the Minority leader in the Assembly 2017.

He was elected again in 2017. Jubilee won majority leaders and he was elected unopposed as the majority leader.
