- Two men killed in Kilimani shootout on Sunday night.
- Four mobile phones, including the two stolen from victims, were recovered. Three guns with six bullets were also recovered.
The two gunmen killed in a shootout in Kilimani were linked to a recent series of carjackings and muggings, police said on Tuesday.
The two, police said, attacked joggers and motorists in the area, robbing them at gunpoint before escaping.
Joggers have complained about attacks, forcing them to leave phones and valuables at home.
The men were killed along Chania Avenue on Sunday night where they had attempted to attack and rob a motorist.
Kilimani police boss Muturi Mbogo said the two gangsters had subdued a taxi driver and his client before robbing them of their mobile phones and taking over their Toyota Vitz.
As the suspects were escaping, police officers responding to the victims' distress call blocked their way and ordered them to surrender.
Police say the suspects opened fire, which the officers returned, fatally injuring the duo.
Four mobile phones, including the two stolen from the victims, were recovered alongside three guns with six bullets.
Armed robberies have been on the rise in the area and police now say they are being addressed.
“We are looking for more suspects," Mbogo said.
Police also are targeting boda boda operators, some of whom have been linked to crime.
Meanwhile, detectives are investigating the discovery of yet another body in Tana River in Garissa county.
It is the second body in two weeks to be discovered in the river. The latest discovery was made on Sunday by herders who told police they saw a floating body.
It was an adult male wearing a vest, shirt and trousers. The hands were tied at the back with a sisal rope.
Police said the body was weighted down with stones.
Last week, another body was removed from the same area. It too was weighted down, its hands tied.
