Sports CS Salim Mvurya hands over the Key for Ithookwe stadium to the administrative division at OP Kodeck Makori at the Ithookwe Stadium on Tuesday/Musembi Nzengu.

Sports CS Salim Mvurya has fired salvos at opposition leaders and cautioned against being dismissive of development projects being carried out by President William Ruto's administration in Kitui county.

“I am aware there are people spreading all types of narrative. It is the right of Kitui people to also get development from the national government,” Mvurya said.

The CS said since 1963, some regions had remained underdeveloped, but Ruto’s government was rectifying this.

“You know in 1963 that right was still there. That right has been there in successive governments. So I want to say it is President William Ruto who has made it happen,” Mvurya said.

He called on citizens—even those in the opposition—to rally behind the President for “doing the right thing for Kenya”.

“Going forward we want to urge all Kenyans to support His Excellency the President as he continues to provide leadership in the transformation of our country,” he added.

The CS was speaking at the just completed  Sh800 million ultra-modern Ithookwe Stadium on the outskirts of Kitui town, when he handed the facility over to the Mashujaa Day

 celebration committee.

Mvurya handed over the giant key to Kodeck Makori—an official from the Office of the President—on behalf of Interior PS Raymond Omollo.

The new 10,000-seater pitch will host the national Mashujaa Day fete on October 20, that will be presided over by the President.

Mvurya praised the contractors for completing the work within given timelines.

“They have also been very consistent. I want to thank them. They are not moving out today but will continue the auxiliary work. We are handing over this facility for the celebration committee.”

The CS said investments in sports infrastructure in the country would continue across the county, as the government provides an enabling environment for talent development.

“In December, we will be completing the Talanta City stadium. And in fact, we want to celebrate Jamhuri Day at that facility.”

Apart from the stadium, the local airstrip was undergoing an upgrade, road connections were being done by Kura, the construction of a State Lodge was underway as well as an avalanche of other projects, he added.

Mvurya was in the company of Governor Julius Malombe, county commissioner Kipchumba Ruto and Sports Kenya chairman MarK Lomunokol.
