KWS has captured a stray Lion that has been terrorizing residents after it escaped from Meru National Park.

The lion is said to have eaten several livestock in Meru and Tharaka Nithi counties.

The lion stayed for about a month leaving residents in fear for their safety especially school going children.

The Lion was captured after hours of follow-up by the KWS wardens with the help of a resident.

The Lion was seen in Kauru village in Maara in the wee hours of Wednesday morning and hundreds of residents gathered to hunt the deadly creature.

“After it was ambushed by residents, the lion attacked one of them and Mmauled his arm. Another resident was also scratched on his ankle by its jaws. They were taken to Magutuni hospital,” Martin Mugambi, a resident said.

After the attack on the two residents, KWS was informed and they came with a helicopter and vehicles and began a hunt for the cat.

A resident who followed the animal trail and saw where it was sleeping around Kariani village, later took the KWS officers to the area and they managed to tranquilize the animal.

The wardens later bundled the animal into a vehicle and took it to the Meru National Park.

Residents who had been leaving with fear are now relieved that the beast was taken away.

“Am a farmer and I was watering my crops at night but due to the fear of being attacked, I had stopped now I will continue a resident said,” a resident said.
