The Njuri Ncheke supreme council of elders has asked Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza for forgiveness for clashing with her over her political alignments before the August 9 general election.
The council led by their programmes secretary general Washington Muthamia and operations secretary general Josphat Murangiri said they regret any inconveniences caused.
The elders were supporting the candidature of former governor Kiraitu Murungi who was trounced by Mwangaza.
"Whenever we clashed we apologise and beseech you to ask for forgiveness too if you wronged us," Muthamia said.
"Never fear involving Njuri Ncheke elders on advice and development projects for the next five years because we will have no other governor but you."
Murangiri said the elders always support the government of the day and they will work, protect and support Mwangaza and his Tharaka Nithi counterpart Muthomi Njuki.
"Party politics are past and alignments should not be a case of discrimination. Unite the Meru people and don't duplicate projects initiated by your predecessor," he said.
Murangiri said the split among the IEBC commissioners is detrimental to peace and prosperity of this nation.
"Let justice prevail. We should not burn our country or turn it to be ungovernable like Somalia," he said.
"The incoming president should proceed with developments initiated by the predecessor."
The elders appealed to supporters of President-elect William Ruto and Azimio leader Raila Odinga to accept the verdict of the ongoing petition at the Supreme Court.
"Their supporters should not go to the streets. Obey the rule of the law because leaders are not bigger than this country," Murangiri said.
Linus Kathera, Njuri Ncheke national chairman said there can never be two winners for the same seat.
