Gospel musician Reuben Kigame has pledged to offer value-based leadership as he reiterated he will run for the presidency next year.
Kigame said he will be seeking the country's top job on the Federal Party of Kenya which he says has endorsed him as flagbearer.
The musician said although he is living with blindness, he has the capacity to offer valuable leadership that will uplift the lives of Kenyans including fellow artists whom he said have been denied their rightful gains through corruption.
Kigame said he was offering himself as the best alternative for a presidential candidate, adding that he believes the presidency needs commitment and putting together a team of strong value-based people to lead.
He said he is determined and will roll out a national campaign to sell his agenda to Kenyans just like other presidential aspirants.
“I know it may sound unbelievable because it's not every day that you see a blind man saying he wants to be president. It's going to be history and I believe that it will happen because I am the best alternative to become Kenya’s fifth president,” he said.
Kigame was speaking at his home in Eldoret where he met fellow musicians and other artists from the region who paid him a courtesy call and pledged to support his bid.
The musicians said they were tired of the status quo because they had been enslaved by cartels and thieves in the sector who benefit from their work as they wallow in abject poverty.
“I will join hands with like-minded artistes because cartels take away our hard-earned money and build empires and amass wealth while the musicians, poets and actors wallow in poverty,” he said.
Kigame has previously unsuccessfully vied for Vihiga governorship but he says he will not give up his ambition to offer his leadership skills to the country.
“I offer myself as the best alternative to be Kenya’s fifth president because I believe God has given me the best abilities and capacity to offer leadership to uplift the lives of Kenyans,” the musician who formerly owned and operated the Fish FM radio station in Eldoret said.
He said Kenyans should not be trapped politically by rich people who had only enriched themselves while the majority of citizens wallow in poverty, disease and other challenges.
Kigame who has received a life membership certificate from the FPK said he believes in federalism which is the basis of devolution.
