Police probe death of man found in Juja dam

Police say the unidentified man's body was recovered from a dam near Malaba Market

Police are investigating the death of an unidentified man whose body was found floating in a dam near Malaba Market in Juja Sub-County, Kiambu County.

According to police, the incident was reported on Thursday.

With the assistance of Kiambu County firefighters, the body was retrieved from the dam.

A preliminary examination found no visible physical injuries on the deceased.

Police suspect the man may have accidentally slipped into the dam and drowned, although the exact cause of death will be established through a postmortem examination.

Crime scene investigators processed and documented the scene before the body was moved to General Kago Mortuary, where it is being preserved pending identification and a postmortem. Investigations are ongoing.

In a separate incident, police in Meru County launched investigations after the body of an unidentified man was found in a maize plantation in Imenti Central Sub-County.

Police said the incident was reported on Thursday after a man informed officers that his son, Lewis Munene, had found the body while working on the family's approximately 15-hectare maize farm.

According to police, the body of the unidentified adult male was found lying on the ground with visible bruises on the back and both arms, prompting investigators to treat the case as a suspected murder.

Police also recovered a black bag containing assorted clothes, believed to belong to the deceased, a few metres from where the body was found.

The body was moved to Kanyakine Sub-County Hospital Mortuary, where it is awaiting identification and a postmortem examination to determine the cause of death. Investigations are ongoing.

In another incident, police in Meru County are investigating the killing of a 26-year-old man in Igembe South Sub-County.

According to police, the incident occurred on Thursday evening in Antuambui Sub-location.

Police identified the deceased as Phinius Mutuma and said he was allegedly chased by a group of young men who were known to his relatives.

According to investigators, the group caught up with him, dragged him to a nearby river, assaulted him and inflicted multiple cuts with a sharp object.

Police said Mutuma sustained severe injuries to the head, hands and legs and was left unconscious.

Residents rescued him and rushed him to Nyambene Level IV Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police officers, assisted by crime scene investigators, visited and documented the scene.

The body was moved to Nyambene Sub-County Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination as investigations continue. Police said efforts to trace the suspects are ongoing.
