Residents of Mwingi West have taken advantage of the ongoing rains to plant trees and make the subcounty the greenest by 20140.
Led by their MP Charles Nguna, the locals are planting trees to increase the forest in the area and to also to be rewarded for those who plant the most.
“For everyone who plants more than 100 trees in their homestead and sees the trees survive, I will pay school fee for their children for a whole term” Nguna promised.
Speaking at Migwani where Nguna led his constituents in tree planting, the MP pledged to aid in planting more than a million trees in his constituency before the end of his current term.
“So far, we are at 450,000 trees and we hope to make up to over a million trees,” the lawmaker said.
In addition, the MP said that they have received good feedback on the seedlings they have distributed so far and that the survival rate is impressive.
Nguna said that nature is unforgiving and the ongoing uncontrolled deforestation in the country is the reason behind extreme climate changes.
“We believe that Mwingi West will be the greenest subcounty in the country, come 2040,” the MP said.
