Seth Hakizimana of Rwanda claimed victory in the 120km race during the second edition of the 2024 Loop Safari Gravel Series at the Iten People’s Park in Elgeyo Marakwet County on Sunday.
Hakizimana, of Team Amani, clocked 5:15:05 ahead of the Black Mamba duo of Brian Kipkemboi and Geoffrey Langat, who timed 5:18:43 and 5:23:31 respectively.
Junior rider Mark Kiprop led Team Rift Valley Rippers to a clean sweep of the medals in the 60km race. Kiprop timed 3:13:56 followed by Frankline Kibet (3:20:27) and Moses Simiyu (3:24:38).
Lance Kangangi of Kenyan Riders won the 20km race after returning 1:40:14. Rooney Kipkurui and Michael Etale followed in respective times of 1:45:37 and 2:04:43.
A total of 86 elite and recreational cyclists from East Africa took part in the event, where the winners of the elite categories received Sh30,000 each, while the winning teams pocketed Sh250,000.
The series heads to Hell’s Gate National Park in Naivasha on June 15 — which will count as an International Cycling Federation qualifier.
The final edition will be held at Vipingo Ridge, Kilifi County, on September 29.
