Kwale police have launched a manhunt following a murder case of two women who were hacked to death on Wednesday morning at Mtsangatifu in Kinango sub-county.
The area OCPD Selina Kiluga has confirmed the incident. It took place at around 7 am.
Kiluga said one woman identified as Mbeyu Tsuma, 47, was killed at her home and the other Chari Mbuja, 39, was attacked while servicing a water pan some meters away.
The OCPD said Tsuma sustained serious head cuts at the back and Mbuja on the head and lower limbs.
According to Kiluga, the two were co-wives and the person who committed the killing is believed to be a close relative.
The motive of the killing is not known but police have launched investigations.
However, it is believed that it could be a possible family dispute.
Police recovered the murder weapon that was stained with blood at the scene.
They also recovered three mobile phones, an Administration Police Jungle T-shirt and some KPA documents at the suspect's home.
According to Kiluga, the police identified the suspect.
She said in the morning the suspect escaped the police dragnet but more efforts are in place to arrest the accused person who is on the run.
"He escaped but the information we have is that the suspect is still within the identified locality," she said.
The bodies were taken to the Kinango sub-county mortuary for postmortem.
Kiluga advised the local community to resolve the family matter peacefully.
She said violence won't be tolerated and those who will be found culpable shall face the full force of the law.
"Why kill innocent people, if you have an issue, report it to the police and let the law take its course," she said.
The OCPD however, urged the residents to provide any information that might lead to the arrest of the suspect who is now perceived dangerous.
