Africa Nazarene University coach Mike Oluoch believes there is still a lot to be done despite their 61-16 thumping of Kenyatta University Oryx in the Kenya National Basketball League match at Nyayo National Stadium.
The tactician, whose side have now won three of their seven games played so far, said there is still work to do if they are to excel in the subsequent matches.
“The girls played well; followed my instructions and made good execution. But we still have a lot of work to do for us to compete at par with our rivals,” he noted.
ANU took a huge 26-5 lead in the first quarter and were up 42-9 at the break adding more misery on KU, who have lost all their five games.
“There is a gradual improvement in the team and things are now taking shape. I believe we will turn the corner very soon,” said KU’s tactician Caleb Osewe.
Jelia Kiberenge registered 15 points and Dosila Okode bagged another 10 for the Rongai-based winners as they continued with their steady climb. In another game, Storms defeated Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) 54-44 for their third win in five outings.
“Our energy in the second half was great. We put pressure on the ball and there were no easy passing lanes. What was annoying was our start. We didn’t warm up with intent,” offered Storms’ coach Abel Nson.
He commended his two new signings Barbra Achieng and Lindsey Nandakho for their efforts in leading the side’s scoring tally. But it was the Juja side, who provided the game’s top scorer in Margaret Spinks as she registered a game-high of 21 points in the loss.
In the lower division matches, Kisii University beat Hope 64-44, JKUAT Stray Cats hit Blazers 60-52 as Moi Air Base (MAB) shot down Neosasa 78-64. Stanbic Aces ruthlessly whipped Vipers 72-24 while Bungoma-based Swift blanked neighbours Western Delight 69-49 in the ladies' matches.
