Nominated MP John Mbadi

Nominated MP John Mbadi has said that Kenyan politics needs to be redefined.

Speaking on Thursday, Mbadi said this is because most Kenyan leaders seem not to know or even understand their mandates.

The MP said elected leaders, especially members of the National Assembly and governors should not be out begging for development money.

He called out Luo Nyanza leaders who were asking President William Ruto for money for their people and development yet they are funded by the state.

"Our politics needs to be refined. When you see a governor asking for Sh30 million or even Sh100 million for a health facility from the President, that shows you where we are because we have allocated money to county governments and if that money is not sufficient there are systems to follow.

"When you see a Member of Parliament begging for Sh10 million from the President to give to women groups and youth groups then the President tells you that matter will be taken to Parliament for the budgetary process it shows you we have elected MPs who don't even understand their mandate," Mbadi said on Citizen TV.

The ODM chairman was reacting to President Ruto's four-day working visit to Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori and Siaya counties.

According to Mbadi, however, Ruto did not take any development to the region but was only out to market his United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ideologies.

Mbadi insisted that Ruto brought nothing new to the region despite launching many projects during the visit.

He said most of the projects were launched by previous administrations.

"First, I was away and even if I was around I wouldn't welcome him (Ruto). To me, I believe that the President's visit was purely to sell the UDA agenda. It had nothing to do with development, there is nothing new that Ruto brought to Nyanza, let it go on record. All those things he was claiming to launch had been launched during Kibaki's time," Mbadi said.

"What we are waiting for is those projects to be completed so that they can be commissioned. Let the president come and commission completed projects, you cannot launch a project twice. One of the projects is in the constituency I represented for 15 years. The Mbita-Sindo-Magunga-Sori Road. It was started in September 2021."
