President Uhuru Kenyatta has sent a message of condolence to the family of Mzee David Ajwang' Nyakwamba.

The Head of State eulogised Mzee Nyakwamba, a retired teacher, as an accomplished senior citizen whose success can be seen through the accomplishments of his children.

"We can tell from the achievements of his children, and from his long and distinguished service to the nation as a teacher that Mzee Nyakwamba was an accomplished senior citizen," Uhuru said.

He died on Wednesday evening aged 89.

Mzee Nyakwamba was the father to Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang, Ruaraka MP TJ Kajwang and late Otieno Kajwang.

Uhuru prayed for God's comfort to the family, friends and relatives of Mzee Nyakwamba in this difficult time.

On Thursday, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga remembered Mzee Ajwang as a respected community leader, educationist and church elder who effortlessly married Luo and Christian traditions at a time when it seemed impossible.

"Mzee Ajwang exemplified the dignity of Luo traditions that many were running from. He led a polygamous family where children never cared who their biological mothers were," he said.

Raila said that he has lost a friend he shared precious moments with.

"I am deeply saddened by his death but grateful for having known and shared precious moments with him," he tweeted on Wednesday night.
