Expansion of Malindi International Airport to cost Sh5.6 billion

The National government has embarked on a multibillion program for expansion of the Malindi international airport to enable bigger flights land directly from Europe.

Top among the development plans include the expansion of the runway from the current 1.4km to 2.5 kilometers that is projected to cost Sh. 5.6 Billion.

In the plan which is subject to change once the exact figures are in place as per authorities Sh. 2 Billion shall be for the expansion of the runway and the remaining SH. 3.6 Billion to be used for acquiring land and expansion.

Already authorities have hired surveyors to establish the exact number of households affected by the runway expansion a process that is expected to be complete in two months. Previously there were speculation that there were over 10 000 people who would be affected.
