Campaigns for Malindi MP are going full speed ahead with nine days to the March 7 by-election.

Six candidates are seeking votes from 55,853 residents in Shella, Malindi town, Ganda, Kakuyunu and Jilore wards.

The candidates are Phillip Charo (Jubilee), Willy Mtengo (ODM), Attas Sharrif (Labour Party of Kenya), Reuben Katana (Kadu Asili), Peter Ponda (Chama Cha Uzalendo) and David Mangi (Shirikisho Party).

The highest number of voters are in Shella and Malindi Town which have 17,036 and 16,803 registered residents, respectively.

Ganda has 9,666 voters, Jilore has 6,348 and Kakuyuni ward has 4,958.

Deputy President William Ruto campaigned for Charo during his Coast visit last week.

ODM deputy party leader Hassan Joho, secretary general Ababu Namwamba and Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi have been attending rallies to support Willy Mtengo.

Some observers say Cord rallies are better attended than Jubilee’s.

Supremacy battles are raging with Cord and Jubilee trading accusations about sabotage.

On Tuesday, Namwamba led an ODM delegation to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission office to protest against alleged election sabotage by Jubilee.

They said Jubilee hires goons to attack ODM supporters and disrupt rallies.

The letter was addressed to IEBC chairman Issack Hassan and called for quick action against goons.

During Ruto’s visit, Coast Parliamentary Group chairman Gideon Mung’aro announced a team of former and current MPs leading Charo’s campaign.

The former MPs include immediate previous Malindi legislator and Mining CS Dan Kazungu, Abubakar Badawy and Lucas Maitha.

MPs Mustafa Iddi (Kilifi South) and Ibrahim Sane (Garsen) have also campaigned for Charo.
