KENYA Commercial Bank volleyball team have beefed up the squad ahead of the 2016 Kenya Volleyball Federation national league kick-off in February.

KCB, who are seeking to recapture the title have already signed players from the Kenya Academy of Sports and they are now closing in on more acquiring more signatures.

Doreen Marani, an outside hitter and Valentine Awuor, an opposite attacker, joined the bankers’ camp in December and January respectively to kick-start their volleyball careers after graduating from KAS in November. Marani comes in to fill the slot left by outside attacker Naomi Too who left to link up with the champions Kenya Pipeline Corporation.

“Right now, I have identified two players to reinforce the middle blocking position and we are in advance stages of acquiring the players. If we manage to at least have one of them penning a contract we will be safe,” noted the open-minded tactician, who guided KCB to finish third position in the KVF national league playoffs at Makande Hall, Mombasa last year.

“The team is already shaping up well and by the time the league kicks off, we will be polished in all area,” said Khainga in his assessment of his two weeks’ pre-season training in 2016.

The 2006 Africa Club champions, who are seeking to recapture the continental title will not be relying on Jackline Baraza’s services this season as she is committed to her work. However, the banking outfit will be boosted by the return of Pauline Nyongesa who was away on maternity leave. Nyongesa will team up with Valentine Jepkoech and Violet Atieno in the pivotal middle blocking position to push for KCB’s season agenda.

During the play-offs in Mombasa, KCB thumped former champions Prisons Kenya 3-2, and they are targeting a repeat performance besides bringing down Kenya Pipeline in the league.
