The Jomo Kenyatta Literature Prize 2015 was handed out at the Pride Inn Hotel in Westlands on Saturday night. The prize celebrates the best in Kenyan writing and was a part of the Nairobi International Book Fair that ended on Sunday.
The winners in the English adult category were Yvonne Adhiambo Owuor for her debut novel Dust, Edward Mwangi was the youth category winner for The Tissue and the children category went to Stanley Gazemba for A scare in the Village. Owuor was given her prize in absentia and collected by Kwani Trust executive director Angela Wachuka.
In Kiswahili the adult category went to John Habwe for Pendo La Karaha, the youth category went to Ken Walibora for Nasikia Sauti ya Mama and the children category went to Clara Momanyi for Kiswahili: Ushindi wa nakate.
In attendance were Kenya Publishers Association chairman David Waweru and deputy Simon Sossion as well as Text Book Centre chairman Bachubhai Shah.
