Kiambu county Jubilee party leaders surprised their secretary general Jeremiah Kioni with a birthday cake to mark his 60th birthday at the party headquarters in Nairobi.
Led by George Maara, interim Jubilee party chairman Kiambu county the more than 50 leaders on Tuesday paid Kioni a courtesy call to show their support for the party leadership.
"Our SG birthday was on February 19 but he could not celebrate it since he had been tied up in court in Nyeri in solidarity with our old women who have been taken to court," Damaris Waiganjo a Kiambaa constituency leader said.
Maara said they have stuck with the party since they believed in its manifesto and ideologies.
He said they are also on the ground popularising the party by recruiting new members and pulling back those who had shifted to other parties.
"We as Jubilee leaders who had vied and lost seats including diehards of the party paid the secretary general a courtesy call to express our commitment to the party and to also forge a way forward within Kiambu county," Maara said.
The leaders had expressed concern about some people claiming to be part of Jubilee in the county, saying that they were doing so for selfish gains.
"There are some people who have seen that the Jubilee party is gaining popularity and they are now out masquerading that they are the party leaders," Mburuti Kinuthia a Komothai ward leader.
"We are intact as leaders and we are going to lead our people towards true leadership and true efforts to support and renew their hopes for a better future."
They said that the party is now stronger than ever and it is working towards delivering an alternative leadership.
Kioni thanked the leaders for the kind gesture.
"Kiambu leaders have shown how much they support their party and respect their party leadership and I am touched by the love they have accorded me," he said.
Kioni said that the party is on the ground across the country fostering unity and recruiting members.
"The people have a voice and the writing is on the wall. We are focused as a party to give the people a platform that speaks their mind," Kioni said.
Kioni, however, called on all party loyalists to come on board and build the party and be part of a strong team that will propel Jubilee into future leadership.
