Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang’wa has dismissed claims by the opposition that the government is not fighting corruption.

Thang’wa said many opposition members were in the previous government and that they were power hungry.

Last Friday, ODM leader Raila Odinga claimed that Ruto’s administration had resorted to persecuting the opposition leaders in an apparent move to silence them.

He spoke when he defended former Kakamega governor Wycliff Oparanya who is facing a court case, terming the case as witch-hunt.

“These people must make noise to be heard. Let them criticise the government but not mislead Kenyans, the government is working day and night to fight corruption”Thang'wa said.

Speaking in Limuru, the senator urged residents to concentrate with what the government is doing to improve Kenyans' lives.

He said the strategies laid down by President William Ruto’s government on corruption, will ensure government officials are faithful with public funds.

“No one will be bribing state officials for free government services and at the same time no one will misappropriate the government money meant for development,” he said.

Thang’wa said the government will never disregard tip off and any information given by the public about an ongoing corruption activity.

The senator said institutions meant for investigating graft such as the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC), Senate and parliamentary committees, and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, will be investigating thoroughly on tip offs.

“We have investigating bodies such as the EACC, the parliamentary and senate committee as well as the public. We will never disregard the public. They may pass information as tip off or even protest,” he said.

Thang’wa said UDA party is not happy with its elected leaders who are not loyal to the party and the government.

“Some of our elected leaders are now criticising the government. This was not the wish of the party and membership. We need to support the government” he said.

“Some of these members joined the UDA as we were heading to the party nominations and were nominated and later elected in the seats they enjoy. However, the party is not happy with them due to their recent conduct and utterances” he said.
