Tender wars are threatening to divide an executive arm of a county government in Nyanza with the local assembly following alleged demands of Sh24 million contracts each by a section of MCAs in the county. The MCAs, who are said to have the backing of their speaker, have insisted that the governor must honour his part of the bargain to give them the tenders to supposedly recover the funds they spent during campaigns and as a sign of “good gesture” towards his administration. However, the governor has reportedly insisted that assembly is a legislative arm of government and should not demand for tenders as it is illegal and could be counterproductive. The incident is said to have caused bad blood between the governor and the speaker, who were once bosom buddies. Attempts to reach a consensus during a night meeting on Monday proved futile.
