Police in Limuru are investigating the murder of a 19-year old college student in his house, a few metres from a police station.

Andrew Ndung'u's body was discovered by his mother in their Mutarakwa village in Limuru central ward house.

According to the family, Ndung'u was a student at Kabete Technical Training Institute and was to start exams on Monday.

His cousin, Kaguora Muchuga, said Ndung'u was an altar boy at Kamirithi Catholic church.

"We fail to understand what may have happened. We have been hurt and our hearts are in pain. This is a student, a person who is not earning and we do not understand why he was brutally murdered," he said.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, Limuru subcounty police commander Phillip Mwania said they have started investigations.

He said no arrest has been made in connection with the incident.

Residents threatened to hold protest after the discovery of Ndung'u's body which had injuries on the head. The neck had been tied with a rope.

Resident Catherine Wanjiru urged the police to investigate, saying if no one is arrested for the murder, they will hold protests.

"How can a student be killed like a thug. He is also an altar boy. We are shocked and we need answers from the police," she said.

Wanjiru said insecurity cases were being reported from the area, despite having Mutarakwa police station in their neighbourhood.

"Ndung'u's home neighbours and Mutarakwa police station are separated by a fence. The police station is less than 500 metres away. People are mugged and robbed, now we have a murder incident, where are we headed to?" she posed.

Wanjiru asked President William Ruto to support the local police station with a patrol car to boost security in the area.
