A legislator has asked President William Ruto to introduce day classrooms at villages that host national schools.

Kiambu woman representative Ann Wamuratha said there were some class 8 candidates who scored good grades which would have sent them to national schools but they couldn't join due to financial constraints.

She said they end up joining local day schools where their parents can afford.

Speaking at Limuru Girls on Saturday, Wamuratha asked Ruto to allow MPs to use a portion of money from their constituency development fund (CDF) kitty to construct classrooms for day scholars.

She had accompanied Ruto who was the chief guest at the school during its 100 years of existence.

"We have so many bright students who are called to national schools, but owing to their family's inability to pay the fees, they end up joining local day schools," she said.

"It is my prayer that if possible Mr President, we start a day section even if it is one class at national school and we start with Limuru girls, where we have come to celebrate 100 years."

The president applauded the institution for producing and molding students who later becomes very important personalities in the country.

Ruto encouraged students to work hard towards their education, saying that was the only important step to take in their lives since it will shape their future.
