The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has announced the closure of Nyeri Road in Nairobi for four days, beginning Thursday, March 31.
In a statement, KURA notified the public that the road in the up-market estate of Kileleshwa will remain inaccessible from 6 AM on Thursday until Sunday, April 3.
"We wish to alert the general public that there will be traffic disruption along Nyeri Road from 6.00 am on Thursday, March 31 to Sunday, April 3 at 6.00 pm," the statement read.
The authority explained that the closure will pave way for the rehabilitation of the road and the installation of a culvert.
Motorists have been asked to remain patient and use alternative routes during the temporary closure.
"We apologize for any inconveniences that may be caused as we endeavour to enhance urban mobility."
Earlier, the Kenya Urban Roads Authority had called on bidders to apply for the Sh800 million tender for the maintenance of the Intelligent Transport System.
ITS is a system in which information and communication technologies are applied in managing road transport and infrastructure.
It uses intelligent cameras, variable timing traffic lights and a control centre to observe and control traffic, thereby reducing the burden on traffic police officers.
The new development falls in line with the plan by the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS), working in conjunction with KURA, to improve the state of roads in the city.
