Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba has alleged that a former politician from the constituency hired goons to disrupt her event.
The legislator claimed the goons were ferried from an informal settlement in Nairobi to interfere with the commissioning of the tarmacking of the Kiagi-Gitombo-Gituamba link road on Sunday morning.
“The disruption was supervised by a former politician who was present with machete-wielding goons who were repulsed by locals and the police. Sadly, the politician is a serving public servant who is enjoying protection from some quarters and had the audacity to physically escort the goons,” she said in a statement on Facebook.
Wamuchomba also claimed that her rival had recently threatened to harm some of her staff members.
She said she had lodged a formal complaint, but the matter had yet to be investigated.
She appealed to the police to investigate the politician and those linked to the violence, which she said was intended to undermine her efforts to deliver services to her constituents.
“Impunity must come to an end, and anarchy is unacceptable,” she said.
Wamuchomba is a vocal critic of the government and has recently aligned herself with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s camp, following months of mixed political messaging.
She held talks with Gachagua at the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) offices in Nairobi on Thursday, 12 June.
Wamuchomba later accompanied the former DP on a tour of Githunguri Constituency and other parts of Kiambu county, signalling her intention to work with him ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking in Banana town, Wamuchomba rallied her constituents to vote against her UDA party leader, President William Ruto, in 2027.
“For those who were saying that I have left this camp, now they can see for themselves, I'm here calling for one term,” Wamuchomba told an electrified crowd in Githunguri town.
The event marked her first public appearance alongside Gachagua in over six months, following earlier criticism of his leadership style.
