West Pokot Governor Simon Kachapin will speed up the implementation of his legacy projects to ensure they are completed within the two years left to the end of his administration.

Most of these projects are in the health, education, agriculture and infrastructure sectors.

“As we get to the final stretch, it's important that we strive to fulfil the pledges we made to our people, specifically, completion of the major projects we initiated,” he said.

Kachapin directed top county officers to ‘up their game’ and work overtime to complete the projects so that residents can reap the benefits.

The governor spoke when he witnessed the swearing-in of 16 newly appointed chief officers, a move which he said marked a significant milestone as the county enters the final two years of his administration.

The ceremony, held at the county residence in Kapenguria, was officiated by principal magistrate S N Telewa.

Kachapin highlighted the growing inclusion of young professionals in leadership and reaffirmed his commitment to nurturing the next generation of public servants through mentorship, responsibility and opportunity.

“We have ensured full involvement of young people in all county appointments because they represent the future of our country, which now needs them to shape the future,” he said.

The governor urged the officers to uphold integrity, manage public resources prudently and remain people-centred.

He emphasised professionalism and humility, cautioning them against corruption and abuse of office.

He also announced plans to boost healthcare services through the establishment of high-capacity oxygen plants at Kapenguria County Referral Hospital and other facilities across the county.

County speaker Fred Kaptui, accompanied by MCAs, attended the event and assured the officers that the assembly will continue exercising strong oversight to ensure accountability.

Public Service Board chairperson John Martakou reminded the officers that their new roles come with great responsibility and public trust.

Kachapin has named Loriong'ong'ar Ruto as the new chief officer in the Finance and economic planning docket, while Joshua Lochmidi joins the Roads, public works and transport department, Rebeca Kide (Education and technical training) and Litole Lucky (Culture, Tourism, Sports, Youth Affairs and Social Service).

The ceremony was attended by county commissioner David Saruni, first lady Scovia Kachapin, CEC members, senior county officials and members of the public.
