Joyce Aluoch, 8, was found dead in a maize plantation at Otok Kamboya village, Central Karachuonyo ward.
The Omuga Primary School pupil was found dead and her genitals, breasts slashed and eyes gouged out.
Central Karachuonyo chief Herman Onyango said the girl went missing from home on June 9. Her body was found on June 12.
However, new revelations indicate that the girl was killed by people belonging to a cult.
This is after a nine-year-old boy revealed how he escaped from the scene where the girl was murdered.
Onyango said the boy was kidnapped by two men on June 10 at about midday, just a day after Aluoch went missing.
The kidnappers got hold of the boy and warned that they would kill him if he raised the alarm.
Speaking to journalists on Monday, Onyango said the suspects took the boy to a maize farm where he saw a human body.
“The boy told his mother that when they got into the maize farm in the custody of the suspects, they found another man worshipping near a human body,” Onyango said.
“The kidnappers joined the man in the worship before he got an opportunity to escape.”
Onyango said the boy was frightened and opened up after Aluoch’s body had been taken to Homa Bay County Referral Hospital mortuary.
“The boy was traumatised because he thought he would be killed but he managed to escape,” he said.
One of the kidnappers is a resident of the area.
The administrator said they suspect the girl was defiled before being killed.
“They removed her breasts and disappeared with them. Residents suspect there are some devil worshippers. The matter is still under investigation,” Onyango said.
The administrator told parents not to allow their children to walk alone.
“We are going to hold a baraza on Tuesday over this matter,” Onyango said.
Rachuonyo North subcounty police commander Lydia Parteiyie said postmortem had revealed that the girl was murdered.
Parteiyie said their investigations are at advanced stages to ensure the suspects are arrested.
“We have identified suspects in connection with the murder and they are going to be arrested soon,” Parteiyie said.
