A KDF soldier has been seriously injured after their vehicle drove over an IED in Boni, Lamu county.
Five others sustained minor injuries.
KDF said the group under Operation Amani Boni was on routine patrol between Milimani and Baure on Tuesday when they struck the explosive device planted by suspected al Shabaab terrorists.
The injured personnel were airlifted to Nairobi.
Spokesperson Col Esther Wanjiku said KDF will continue operating with other agencies in the vast Boni Forest where militants hide.
She did not elaborate but said the attack occurred at 9pm.
In May this year, four soldiers were killed in a landmine attack.
The area is near the Kenya-Somalia border, which has been under attack by terrorists in the past months.
Since September 2015, Boni Forest is an operation zone where security agencies are trying to drive militants from the forest in Operation Linda Boni.
Despite sustained security operations, militants have been striking after planting explosives on the roads used by the security agencies and other vehicles.
In April, two people were killed when their lorry drove over a similar IED. They were part of a team building a border wall and barricade aimed at keeping militants out of Kenya.
On March 23, one person died when a water bowser headed to Usalama Camp hit an IED. It was ferrying water for workers on the border wall.
In January 2016, five police officers were killed while three were injured when a Rapid Deployment Unit lorry hit an IED along Hindi-Kiunga road in Lamu.
The officers were heading to Usalama Camp inside the dense Boni Forest.
On June 14, 2015, more than 60 al Shabaab fighters ambushed KDF's Baure camp near Baragoni in Lamu at around 5.45am.
About 18 militants and two KDF officers were killed and an assortment of weapons, including a video camera, found.
