Archer Shehzana Anwar’s campaign in the Olympic games was halted on Monday after falling 7-1 to world number one Bobae Ki of South Korea in the women’s Individual 32 Elimination round.
However, the fast rising archer went down fighting as she gave as much as she received in her debut year at the Olympics.
“She has done well. She had a problem prior to arriving here and I think she is improving.
The Korean, who is also the Olympic defending champion won 26-24, 26-23, 26-26 and 27-26 to qualify for the next round. However, Shehzana also known as Kuki by her fans, will return home with her head high after stretching her opponent in all sets.
“ I am happy to be at the Olympics and being appointed to carry Kenya’s flag had crowned it all.
“To be honest, I was overwhelmed by the occasion but I am happy the way things unfolded. I am young and the focus now turns to 2020 Tokyo Olympics,” she said.
Kuki is coached and managed by her mother Tabassum.
“I am impressed with the way she has handled the pressure. the Olympic Games were a learning curve for
her,” Tabassum said of her daughter.
Kuki qualified
for the Olympic Games in February after finishing top during the Africa qualifiers in Namibia.
