The insurance market in Kenya remains largely untapped, with low levels of investment and insurance uptake.

This was the key message from Joseph Gathogo, Head of Ordinary Life Business and National Sales Manager at Madison Life Assurance, as he addressed top-performing life agents during a recognition ceremony held in Nairobi.

Gathogo described the sector as a "virgin market," calling on agents to push boundaries and expand outreach to more Kenyans.

“The biggest marketing you can have is not advertising on radio or TV but word of mouth,” Gathogo told the agents.

“We are here as a company because of what you have done in the marketplace — talking to people and convincing them to take insurance covers and investment products.”

The remarks were made during an event organised by Madison Investment Managers Limited to honor four high-achieving life agents: Rose Wairimu Nguru, Elizabeth Syombua Karanja, Abigael Wanja Ngecha, and Elvis Agesa Malikisi.

Rebecca Tiba, Managing Director of Madison Investment Managers Ltd., praised the agents for their strong performance and dedication, noting their role in building trust and customer satisfaction nationwide.

“Our mission is to serve, grow, and protect the wealth of our clients,” said Tiba.

“It is their commitment that continues to drive growth, trust and client satisfaction across the country.”

With more than Sh 10 billion in Funds Under Management, Madison Unit Trust Funds has positioned themselves as one of the market leaders in the country, offering products such as money market funds, fixed income funds, and wealth funds.

Lucy Mwangi, Agency Services Manager at Madison Life Assurance, also encouraged the agents to maintain their momentum.

She acknowledged their role in inspiring new entrants to the sector.

“We have seen transformation among our people. I am excited about the sales that you have been making and the progress that you have made over time,” said Mwangi.

“You are role models because when younger people hear about what you are doing, they are inspired… you are also giving customers the opportunity to realise their dreams.”

The ceremony celebrated individual achievement and emphasized expanding financial inclusion.
