Airtel Money subscribers can now transact up to Sh500,000 in a day effective August 15, following approval by the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK).

This from the previous limit of Sh300,000.

The move comes hot on the heels of  a similar move by rivals Safaricom.

Limit per transaction will remain at Sh150,000 and customers can transact multiple times up to the new set limit of half a million.

Airtel Money managing director Anne Kinuthia welcomed the nod from the regulator saying the move will significantly empower their customers and partners.

She said the flexibility will enable customers  to conduct larger transactions and manage their finances more effectively.

"The increase in the daily transaction limit is expected to benefit a wide range of Airtel Money customers, including businesses, government agencies, among others," Kinuthia said.

She added that the move is well aligned with the government's drive towards digital economy growth.

"Businesses can now conduct their operations more conveniently, efficiently and consumers can access a wider range of goods and services, contributing to economic growth, job creation and improved financial stability in the country."
