CS Balala reduces Park entry fee by 50 per cent effective July 1

All the three measures apply from 1st of July 2020 to 30th June 2021.

Tourism Cs Najib Balala

Tourism CS Najib Balala has reduced park entry fees for Kenyans and International visitors by 50 percent.

This means that instead of paying Sh300 to visit parks, you will pay Sh150 only.

Speaking on Thursday, Balala also announced a moratorium for free rent for all lodges in Kenya Wildlife Parks.

 

This is together with a 50 per cent reduction fee for film makers who are normally charged by KWS when they film documentaries in the parks.

All the three measures apply from July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021.

This will be applied to the local tourists and the international tourists effective July 1, 2020.

Balala on Thursday said the new entry fee is a response to the Covid-19 impact which has hit the tourism sector.

In the revised entry fee, local tourists will pay Sh400 as they visit Nairobi Park from the current Sh430 while those visiting Nakuru Amboseli will pay Sh800 from the initial Sh860.

Tsavo West and Tsavo East will be charging Sh500 from Sh515 while Meru, Aberdares and Mt.Kenya will charge Sh250 from Sh300.

Marine Parks Kisite Mpunguti new entry fee will be Sh200 from Sh215 while those visiting Malindi/Watamu/Mombasa/Kiunga will pay Sh100 from initial Sh130.

 

Those wishing to tour sanctuaries including Nairobi Orphanage, Safariwalk and Kisumu Impala will pay Sh200 instead of Sh215.

WS said the entry fee to all other Parks and Reserves in the country such as Marsabit, Mwea, Ruma, Saiwa Swamp, South Turkana, Sibiloi, Central and South Island, Kakamega, Shimba Hills, Ndere Island, Chyullu Hills, Hells Gate, Mt. Longonot and Mt. Elgon will be Sh250 instead of Sh300.

Also, the rates for conference groups in lodges inside KWS parks have been reduced.

Conferences of 100 participants and above will be given a discount of 50 per cent while those with 50-99 participants will enjoy a discount of 20 per cent.

Conferences with 30-49 participants will be given a discount of Sh10 per cent while those with 20-29 participants will be given a discount of 5 per cent.

At the same time, the CS announced a 50 per cent discount on filming fees for both local and international producers filming inside KWS parks and reserves.

Balala said the move is meant to encourage all filmmakers to profile Kenya as a magical destination.

He also urged investors in KWS parks and reserves to adhere to the officially launched ‘Magical Kenya Tourism Health and Safety Protocols’ as they refurbish their facilities.
