JKUAT Cougars bolster squad with eight signings ahead of Kenya Cup debut

Jomo Kenya University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) Cougars have signed eight rookies ahead of their Kenya Cup debut.

Coach Smith Muhoya said due to the short transfer window, they didn’t sign experienced players they had identified.

“We signed mostly young players, but we are still looking to sign experienced players. We are in talks with the experienced players, and some logistics need to be ironed out before the transfers are completed,” said Muhoya.

He added: “The transfer window was a bit shorter than usual. Getting the experienced players from their previous clubs proved to be a challenge to us.”

The players are likely to join the varsity club during the December mid-season transfer window. Muhoya further said they are ready to welcome new players who will join the university during the September intake.

“We expect more signings when first-year students report, while continuing students will also return from the long holiday. KRU will normally grant universities a window to register first-year students,” noted Muhoya.

The newly promoted Juja based Kenya Cup side signed Jotham Amonde, Cedric Chege, Ian Ndigwa, and Joseph Asuma. Others are Charles Obiero, Peter Igari, and Sospeter Nyagua.

At the same time, Mwamba RFC signed 12 mostly experienced players ahead of their return to the Kenya Cup. They raided fellow Kenya Cup side Strathmore Leos for Abdul Malik and Sullivan Japaso.

Also joining Mwamba are Raynold Anduvate from Impala, Zoellick Buyuni from Stallions, Hannington Wabwire from Nakuru and Jerome Mukaisi from Karatina University.

Others are Benjamin Wanyonyi and Joshua Otieno (Embu RFC), Maxwel Osoro (Makueni Ravens); John Chesoli and Jeremiah Were, who were not previously registered, have also joined Kulabu.
